Baling Hay, 2007

Ever wonder how those large rolls of hay are baled? Ever wonder what all the strange machinery is and does? Here are pictures of this years haying...our bales are 5'x4' and are mainly used for cattle (most horses are too finicky for bahia hay)!

This machine below cuts the grass: the blades cut as low as possible and the flap helps to lay the grass flat on the ground.

Once the grass has dried in the sun, this machine below fluffs and windrows it.

The grass can be very high at this step and the fluffing makes sure the grass is dry.

This machine below bales the hay. It is driven over the windrowed grass and the baler sucks the grass into the back where it is whipped into a round bale.

Once the bale is complete, it is wrapped with mesh, and then pops out the back .... ready to form the next bale.

Visit with Audrey Chalfen

We had a wonderful visit with Audrey (Shaman Anatolians) and Sheila Wynne in MA. Audrey is a fantastic chef and she prepared a feast of AWESOME Mexican food! The highlight of our visits with Audrey other than the great food and usual contest to see who can burn their mouths to bits by eating the spiciest hot sauce (though this visits contest was panned and replaced with hot political discussion!) is her dogs. Zoran, Hannah and their daughter Babe have wonderful temperaments and Babe is an especially gorgeous girl with a huge head and great bone.
Sheila brought her big pinto boy, Rory, over. Rory is a littermate to Babe. Wow has he grown... he is absolutely HUGE ... very tall with a magnificent head and most likely still growing!
Pictures are of Audrey cooking up a storm and the magnificent dogs.
