Wolf Release Day

WOLF RELEASE DAY
May 27 was Release Day at Seacrest Wolf Preserve . After many years of hard work, 3 large enclosures were finally ready for the wolves of Seacrest in Chipley, FL. Lots of volunteer work and donations went into making these beautiful habitats possible. Each consists of several acres and includes large Southern oaks and a creek with a small pond. A den made from concrete culverts is also in each enclosure - they have not yet been completed. Ten foot chainlink fencing topped with barbed wire and about 3 feet of underground fencing to prevent digging under makes up each enclosure's perimeter. Each also has a lockout for feeding, health care, hurricane protection, etc.
On Saturday about 30 of the most involved volunteers arrived at Seacrest to be a part of this most monumental day. The wolves were given mild sedation and transported in a horse trailer. From the hilltop a loud horn began to blaze... the horn announced the coming of each pack to their new home!
Below on the left, the light colored timber wolves leave easily and are off to explore their new home.. they are part of the pack lovingly called "the Ambassador Wolves" - a very friendly group. In the photo on the right is Kiowa, affectionately called "The Angel Wolf". He is not so eager to leave and is getting some help from Cynthia.

Enjoy more photos of the wolves of Seacrest in their new habitat. The first thing they did was to explore the perimeter. It was a very HOT Florida day and the creek turned out to be the most delightful spot!

Stay tuned to my next blogger entry which will be awesome photos of a pack in the making. Two older pups were introduced to an already established pack. The pups were placed in the lockout for initial introduction. When all seemed well, the lockout was opened and the establishment of the new pack and its heirarchy took place right before our eyes (and cameras) !!

PAWS Therapy Dog Picnic

Najene was invited to a BBQ with all her friends from the group homes as well as her therapy dog friends. She feasted on doggie pate, biscuits and of course some hot dogs, hamburgers and homemade ice cream. And she was the winner of a spectacular door prize - a large basket with lots of squeaky goodies!

Najene and Richard. We were so glad to see Richard - he broke his hip a while back and has been afraid to go out of the house ever since. Seeing him at the picnic made it a really special day.
Henry got to meet all Najene's friends (and wore his Anatolian T-shirt for the occasion).
