Fall Festival Parade

Najene attended her first parade, marching with the other Therapy Dogs in the Bushnell Fall Festival. There were hundreds of children lined up along the road to enjoy the parade and get some Halloween treats. During the parade, we walked behind the float visiting the children - tossing candy, getting pats and hugs, and handing out stickers and bookmarks (our TDI group is sponsored by the Public Library). We walked the mile plus route and then all the dogs crammed onto the float for what seemed like an endlessly long ride back. That was an experience for sure - what you cannot see in the photo is that underneath Najene are several dogs. It was a very hot day (90's) and all were tired and few grumpies did some growling. The long PAWS sign handle fell and rammed Najenes rear - she was concerned and tried to turn around to check out what was going on behind her, but was locked in between hay bales and dogs. She was wonderfully patient and I was so proud of her.. what a terrific girl!

Before the parade starts Najene waits with a big smile! (Yep, that is a labradoodle in the background. There were 2 - one shedding type and one non :-o hrrmmmm.

The biggest dog and the smallest! I got to smell puppy breath - this is a rescue pup who rode in a baby carriage in the parade...she was just adorable! They look sort of alike, don't they? I could dream....

The ride home was an experience for sure...

The gang...yes, we were actually ALL in the float together on the way home!
